What Is a Mini-Split Heat Pump?
A ductless system, also known as a “split” air conditioner system, includes two components: an indoor unit to deliver conditioned air to the room, and an outdoor unit located outside the house. Compact refrigerant lines run between the two units, eliminating the need for bulky ductwork. Ductless systems are ideal for older homes that have no ductwork, room additions, or areas in homes that just never seem to be the right temperature or are never comfortable.
Ductless systems are available in a range of sizes and styles—including systems that can heat and cool multiple rooms with a single outdoor unit to fit almost any need. The indoor units are available in many different types to suit the look and feel of your home.
Installation of Mini-Split Systems
Ductless mini-splits are small in size. They generally require a three-inch hole in the wall to connect the outdoor and the indoor units together. In most models, we can connect as many as four indoor units to a single outdoor unit, for zoned heating and cooling in four different rooms. These systems are very convenient to install and have connecting conduits of various lengths.
The outdoor unit of the system can be installed up to 50 feet away from the indoor unit. This lets the indoor units cool the rooms inside the house while the outdoor unit is placed inconspicuously at the back of the building.
